As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will play a key role in how EML delivers reporting and analytics across claims management, portfolio performance and client outcomes. This is a newly created role within our Actuarial, Analytics and Reporting function, introduced to meet growing demand and to ensure our actuaries can focus on actuarial work, while you focus on building high-quality, fit-for-purpose BI solutions.
In this role, you'll design, build and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards and datasets, working closely with actuaries, analysts and stakeholders across the business. You'll translate reporting needs into clear, reliable insights, contribute to improving our BI infrastructure, and help ensure data is accurate, well-governed and easy to understand for both technical and non-technical audiences. You'll be supported by a collaborative team, with structured onboarding and training in your first month to set you up for success.
This is a
full-time, permanent position
based in our
Sydney
office, with work-from-home flexibility considered after month one, subject to performance and approval.
Your Responsibilities
* Design, build and maintain Power BI datasets, reports and dashboards that support claims management, portfolio performance and client reporting.
* Work closely with actuaries, analysts and business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into clear, practical BI solutions.
* Develop and maintain SQL queries, views and processes to ensure reliable, well-structured data for reporting and analytics.
* Ensure data quality, accuracy and consistency through validation, reconciliation and adherence to BI governance standards.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting and analytics products, including refining existing reports and suggesting smarter ways of working.
* Support the deployment, documentation and ongoing use of BI outputs so reports are easy to understand, trusted and used across the business.
About You
* Hands-on experience developing production-ready reports and dashboards in Power BI, including Power BI Service.
* Strong SQL capability, with experience querying, shaping and validating data from relational databases.
* Working knowledge of DAX and Power Query (M) to create meaningful metrics and prepare data for reporting.
* A solid understanding of data modelling principles, including fact and dimension tables and star schemas.
* The ability to translate business questions into clear metrics and visuals, and explain insights confidently to non-technical stakeholders.
* A detail-oriented mindset, with a strong focus on data quality, accuracy and continuous improvement.
* Up to 2 years BI development experience or reporting experience preferred.
