Based on our property in Yellingbo VIC, we are looking for an experienced Gardener /Farm Hand to perform various duties around the property, on a casual basis. The hours of work will be 0800 – 1600, three days a week upon commencement.
Employment will be made through a Labour hire agency in accordance with duties between Level 3 and 5 (dependent on experience), from both the Modern Horticulture and Gardening & Landscaping Awards.
Remuneration will be these awards plus 12% superannuation. In accordance with the award, this casual rate applies regardless of the day of the week (i.e including weekends), but there is no work on public holidays. The position is subject to a three-month probationary period and there is opportunity to extend the number of days if appropriate, either during or after this period.
You will be working with the owners in addition to autonomous unsupervised work. Overall aims are to tidy and improve the cattle paddocks and bush areas. In addition to gardening maintenance and revegetation.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Cleaning up dead and fallen trees using a chainsaw and log splitter
* Collecting and moving cut up trees for firewood via tractor, or ATV
* Spraying weeds and blackberry
* Burn off debris when possible
* Electric fence maintenance
* General farm and machinery usage and maintenance
* Slashing grass with tractor, ride on mower and whipper snipper
* Landscaping & revegetation
* Rotating cattle around paddocks
* Cleaning of water troughs
* Harrowing cattle paddocks
* Assisting with cattle well-being and medical requirements
* Other related work as directed
The successful candidate will have the following essential experience and qualities:
* Have experience in a similar role
* Be physically fit with the capacity for heavy lifting up to 25kg
* Be an experienced tractor driver, able to use a slasher and other attachments
* Be confident to take directions and carry out tasks autonomously or work with the owners
* Have experience using herbicides, operating farm equipment, chainsaws, and other tools
* Have a mechanical aptitude and some mechanical knowledge
* Be passionate about working outdoors and with livestock
* Have problem solving skills and the capacity to work unsupervised
* Exhibit an honest and reliable work ethic
* Adhere to safe work practices
* Hold a current, valid Victorian driving license
* Two employment related references
Desirable for the successful candidate:
* Certifications and / or licenses that are relevant to gardening/ horticulture /farm hand work
* Ownership and use of own tools, where possible -e.g. chainsaw (maintenance costs will be covered).
* Flexibility to alter days of work on occasion due to inclement weather
