A well-established business operating nationally within the building materials and trade supply sector is seeking a commercially minded Assistant Category Manager to join their product team. The business is known for its wide-reaching distribution network, broad product offering, and long-standing customer relationships across the construction and design industries.
About the Role
This position supports a senior category lead in managing a large, diverse product portfolio. The role focuses on product lifecycle support, supplier engagement, internal communications, and data management. You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team, working closely with supply chain, sales, marketing, and procurement stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supporting the management of shared and ancillary product groups across the category
* Assisting with supplier communication, product data updates, and promotional logistics
* Analysing product performance and identifying opportunities to improve margin or range performance
* Ensuring accurate and timely product information is maintained across systems and channels
* Coordinating field trials and monitoring supplier price movements
What we’re looking for:
* Prior experience in product or category support, buying, or procurement
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
* Comfortable working with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, JDE) and advanced Excel
* Good communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
* Exposure to construction, hardware or industrial products is beneficial but not essential
