An esteemed council in the Western Sydney area is seeking a highly skilled Senior Investigation Officer to join its Corporate Assurance team. This is a pivotal role for an experienced investigations professional who thrives in complex environments, enjoys working with integrity, and is committed to strengthening governance across large public sector organisations.

Your new role
As the Senior Investigation Officer, you will lead and manage a diverse portfolio of complex and sensitive internal investigations, often involving governance issues, disciplinary matters, organisational conduct, and systemic concerns.
Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:
Core Investigation Activities
Conducting end‑to‑end investigations using recognised methodologies, from planning and evidence gathering through to analysis, findings, and recommendations.
Interviewing staff and stakeholders, reviewing documentation, and synthesising information into clear, impartial reports.
Ensuring all investigative activity complies with relevant legislation, policy frameworks, and evidentiary standards.
Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement
Briefing senior leaders and executives on investigation outcomes, risks, trends, and recommended actions.
Building strong relationships internally and externally to support robust decision‑making and timely responses to issues.
Providing expert advice on conduct matters, integrity standards, and best‑practice investigative approaches.
Governance, Policy & Continuous Improvement
Identifying systemic issues arising from investigations and recommending improvements to policy, process, or culture.
Contributing to the ongoing development of governance frameworks, accountability measures, and organisational capability.
Ensuring secure management of all sensitive material in line with strict confidentiality and legislative obligations.
This role will suit someone who enjoys moving between strategic thinking and hands‑on investigative work, with a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
What you'll need to succeed
Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, investigations, or a related discipline.
Extensive experience managing sensitive and complex investigations, ideally within a regulatory, government, or large‑scale organisational setting.
Experience within local councils/government preferred.
Strong understanding of administrative law principles, procedural fairness, and ethical decision‑making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, persuasive reports.
High‑level stakeholder management, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
Demonstrated integrity, resilience, and the ability to remain impartial under pressure.
NSW Driver Licence.
