Structural Engineer
HED Consulting – Hobart or Launceston, TAS
HED Consulting is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Hobart or Launceston. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects while helping establish and support our presence in Tasmania.
You will work closely with our experienced engineering team based in Hobart and receive ongoing mentoring and technical support as you develop your career.
This role is primarily focused on structural engineering design, with some involvement in civil engineering tasks where required. This role is ideally suited to an engineer with experience in residential structural design in Australia who is looking to further develop their career within a collaborative and supportive consulting environment.
The Role
Structural Design & Engineering
* Undertake structural engineering design tasks across a range of projects.
* Prepare engineering calculations, sketches, design mark-ups and supporting documentation in accordance with Australian Standards.
* Strong working knowledge of AS1170, AS1684, AS3600, AS4100, AS2870, AS3700, AS1720 & AS4678.
* Assist with the preparation and coordination of structural drawings and documentation for construction.
* Apply established engineering methods and professional judgement to solve defined engineering problems.
* Work closely with senior engineers and incorporate technical feedback into design work.
Construction Phase Support
* Undertake construction and site inspections to assess compliance with approved designs and specifications.
* Observe key construction hold points and foundation stages.
* Identify potential technical, quality or constructability issues.
* Prepare site inspection notes and reports.
* Liaise with builders and contractors to clarify design intent and respond to routine technical queries.
Training & Development
* Participate in structured mentoring and training with our Civil Engineering Lead and team based in Hobart.
* Receive technical guidance and review to support professional development.
* Develop your engineering capability through hands-on project work and ongoing learning.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
* Minimum 3+ years experience in structural design of residential houses in Australia
* Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and residential construction practices
* Experience in preparing engineering calculations and design documentation
* Good communication and problem-solving skills
* A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to a growing team
