About the School
Aspley High School is a growing co-educational Independent Public School offering a comprehensive High School education for years 7 through to 12. The school is located on the north side of Brisbane, and was established in 1963. Students come from a range of suburbs including Bridgeman Downs, Aspley, Zillmere, Geebung, Carseldine and Bald Hills. Approximately 1100 students attend our school.
We are a diverse learning community. We have students from many different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. First Nation Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are a proud part of our community. About the Role
As Head of Department - Student Services, you will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:
- Oversee, track and monitor the attendance, behaviour, uniform and attainment of students in year 7 and 8. Provide programs of intervention when required.
- Work with teams to promote a sense of belonging and wellbeing for all students.
- Monitor individual student performance and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
- Monitor cohort and group performance to develop and implement intervention and proactive strategies where necessary.
- Oversee the school pastoral care program as it pertains to year 7 and 8.
- Work with parents, family and community to implement innovative intervention and support strategies for students at risk.
- Lead the relevant co and extra curricula programs, excursions and camps for year 7 and 8.
- Enrolment, orientation and transition for year 7 and 8.
- Support our school specialist programs and events that specifically pertain to year 7 and 8 and the wider school community.
- Support the leadership development of all students with a particular focus on the specific programs for year 7 and 8.
- Manage the transitions from year 7 to year 8.
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies and programs with other organisations, local businesses and not for profit organisations to support the engagement of all students in our school.
- Supervise and support the performance plans of teachers as required.
- Where requested, prepare all data returns for the Principal.
- Communicate and work with parents, and other stakeholders to improve learning outcomes, student achievements and attendance.
- Support and enforce the Student Code of Conduct, including behaviour, uniform, attendance and Student Disciplinary Absences and work collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to create proactive plans and implement individual case management.
Specific within role
- Leading teams in the orientation and transition of students from primary to our secondary setting including enrolment events and parent engagement activities.
- Leading the work of strengthening links with our local primary schools.
- Support and engage with our specialist entry programs.
- Lead parent engagement strategy for transition.
- Working with the junior secondary team to transition students from year 7 to year 8.
