Details: The Long Service Leave Authority (ACT Leave) is a Statutory Authority of the ACT Government responsible for the administration of portable long service leave benefit schemes for covered industries within the ACT.
Our vision is to make portable long service leave universally understood and recognised as an important and accepted part of the employment landscape. Our activities are determined by the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009, and we are governed by a Board appointed under the legislation.
ACT Leave is led by the Chief Executive Officer and Registrar, supported by an Executive Team comprising the Chief Finance Officer and Deputy Registrar, Chief Operations Officer, Chief Corporate Services Officer and Chief Information Officer.
The Assistant Director, Employer Compliance and Enforcement plays a significant role in the leadership and technical direction of the Compliance Team. The team is responsible for:
* Devising and delivering against the Compliance Strategy, Planning, executing, recording and reporting compliance and enforcement activities that support ACT Leave's statutory functions and objectives,
* Interpreting and applying the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009 in operational settings, including complex coverage, registration and employer obligation matters;
* Developing practical guidance, procedures and decision tools that support sound, consistent and procedurally fair compliance decisions; and
* Contributing subject-matter expertise to employer education and stakeholder engagement activities that improve understanding of scheme obligations and strengthen scheme integrity.
The role works closely with the Chief Finance Officer and Deputy Registrar, the Compliance Manager, Senior Compliance Officers and other internal teams, and liaises externally with industry bodies, other government agencies, the ACT Government Solicitor, the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the ACT Magistrates Court as required.
The role exists to strengthen ACT Leave's external compliance and enforcement capability by translating legislation into practical operational approaches, improving decision quality and consistency, and supporting risk-based, value-for-money compliance outcomes.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
* Tertiary qualifications or commensurate experience in a related field such as Law, Public Policy, Public Administration, Regulation, Compliance or a related discipline would be highly regarded.
* A current driver's licence.
* Educational and professional qualification checks may be undertaken prior to employment.
Notes: This is a temporary position available from April 2026 for a period of up to 12 months with the possibility of permanency.
A merit pool will be created from this recruitment process to fill identical vacancies in the next 12 month.
