The Australian Government is investing in flood warning infrastructure in Australia's highest flood risk areas.
Investment of >$230 million over the next 10 years will enable the Bureau to simplify ownership and maintenance of high-priority flood warning assets by acquiring, upgrading and integrating more than 1,500 key local government-owned, and some state government-owned, rain and river level gauges in high-priority areas into its existing flood warning network across Australia.
The Bureau seeks an experienced Stakeholder Engagement Manager to lead communications and engagement with key government and community stakeholders to inform the delivery of critical flood warning infrastructure as part of the Flood Warning Infrastructure Network (FWIN) Program.
Reporting to the General Manager, FWIN, and sitting within the Bureau's Communications Program, the role will draw on expertise from across the communications team - comprising internal and external communication, strategic content & media, government relations and creative - to deliver expert strategic engagement advice and initiatives.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to and shape the work of the Bureau of Meteorology and the emergency response capacity of the nation.
Reporting to the General Manager, Flood Warning Infrastructure Network Program, the Stakeholder Engagement Manager will be accountable for developing and implementing multi-faceted and multi-year strategic communications and engagement approaches to support engagement with >350 local councils and all state and territory governments, with a focus on identifying high priority assets for remediation, acquisition and on-going maintenance.
To achieve this, you will develop a strong understanding across the breadth of the Bureau's work, and a broad understanding of its contribution to Australia's national interests, upon which you will be able to make informed judgements and communicate persuasively. Through a structured process of engagement, you will ensure that the FWIN program is aware of and sensitive to local needs and sentiment, whilst simultaneously ensuring that it meets program delivery goals.
