About Us

Avani is a family owned and operated winery & restaurant on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, 1 hr drive south from Melbourne.

The restaurant (est. 2024) has quickly become a premium dining destination, serving an Indian-inspired menu with a focus on local and native ingredients.

With the business now expanding into functions, weddings, private catering and an upcoming pantry range, Avani is entering an exciting phase of growth—offering a unique opportunity to be part of a passionate and evolving hospitality team.

Note - The Mornington Peninsula is considered Regional under visa conditions. Candidates must hold valid Australian work authorisation to be eligible for this position.

About the Role

An exciting career opportunity exists for an experienced Sous Chef to join our team at Avani in a full time position starting immediately. The ideal candidate will have a wide range of preparation and cooking skills, be familiar with the operation of a busy kitchen, strong knowledge of produce, techniques, and the ability to prepare and execute beautiful dishes in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should have a genuine love and passion for cooking.

The sous chef will be working alongside the Culinary Director, Deepak Mishra, a unique and rare opportunity.

Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years professional cooking experience to be considered for this role.

During off peak periods, the candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in assisting in the winery or vineyard to further their knowledge of the business.

The role is day time only from Thursday to Monday.

Responsibilities

* Preparing food items according to recipes and menus

* Maintain high standard of food presentation

* Management of stock ordering and rotation

* Ensuring all equipment is appropriately maintained and cleaned

* Ensuring the correct storage of food and ingredients

* Managing junior staff members

* Promote Health and Safety at all times

* Minimize wastage/ spoilage.

* Daily checks of all mis en place to ensure freshness & quality standards.

* Maintain food safety related documentations and follow local food safety standards
