Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy, may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for filling similar roles. Applicants may be offered a future role, without the need to reapply. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months.

This merit list or pool may be used to fill other vacancies anywhere in Australia.

Who we are

The Strategy, Performance and Engagement Division delivers a range of strategic departmental services designed to ensure DAFF maintains an enterprise focus. Services include media and communications, stakeholder engagement, governance, planning, reporting, risk management, and crisis/emergency management. We provide high quality support and advice to the department's executive and business areas on portfolio strategy, including developing, embedding and driving the department's strategic purpose, objectives, priorities, vision and values. The Chief Strategy Officer leads the division, working across the department to embed strategic capability which ensures the department is best positioned to deliver its priorities and prepare for the future.

The Governance Branch supports our ministers, managing corporate planning, performance and reporting, enterprise risk management, statutory and portfolio appointments and the Enterprise Program Management Office.

The Performance and Reporting Section supports the department to capture its core purpose and strategic priorities, and to measure its success in achieving that purpose. The team works across the department to manage and deliver a range of strategic and operational planning and performance reporting documents, including the Corporate Plan, Annual Report and business planning tools and templates, to support effective governance and accountability. We ensure the department meets its obligations under the PGPA Act and the Commonwealth Performance Framework. Our work includes managing governance systems and frameworks for performance and reporting and supporting business areas in planning and executive reporting.

The key duties of the position include:

The Job

The duties will include but not limited to the following:

- supporting the development and implementation of performance and reporting functions under the corporate plan, business planning, annual report and non-financial performance framework,
- analysing corporate information and processes to identify solutions for streamlining effective planning, reporting and communication,
- working with divisions to develop key performance measures and capture non-financial performance information,
- establishing, leading and maintaining governance systems and reporting frameworks,
- driving the development of a new data-based monitoring and reporting framework, to underpin effective performance reporting measures,
- strengthening the approach to data collection, records management and data visualisation/ reporting across performance frameworks, business planning, reporting and the ANAO audit of performance measures,
- providing detailed technical, professional, and/or policy advice in relation to complex problems and assist in strategic planning, program and project management and policy development,
- liaising and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders and participating in committees and forums,
- managing stakeholders through change, resolving conflict, and managing sensitivities,
- assisting in setting strategic priorities for the section to achieve department outcomes,
- preparing reports, briefing papers and discussion papers.

What we are looking for

Knowledge and experience

- Experience managing corporate programs and projects at an organisational level.
- Extensive stakeholder engagement and presentation experience.
- A strong understanding of corporate performance measurement.
- Expertise in working with a broad range of stakeholder and effective stakeholder engagement experience.
- Team management experience, incorporating performance feedback and career development.
