Independent Member of Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC)
Inverell Shire Council is seeking Expression of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons that meet the independence and eligibility criteria prescribed by the Regulation (sections 216D, 216E and 216F) to serve on the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) as an Independent Member
The appointment of the Independent Member to ARIC will be undertaken in accordance with the Office of Local Government's Risk Management and Internal Audit for Local Government in NSW Guidelines (Guidelines).
Under the Guidelines, the ARIC continually reviews and provides independent advice to the General Manager and Council on how it is functioning and managing risk.
About the Independent Member:
Applicants must demonstrate a broad range of attributes, skills and experience relevant to the role of an ARIC Independent Member.
Essential requirements include:
* Strong knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: risk management, governance, financial reporting, IT/cyber security, internal and external auditing, performance management, capital project management or legal and regulatory compliance;
* Proven capacity to form independent judgements and provide constructive advice to management;
* Senior or executive-level experience in governance and management of complex organisations;
* Understanding of corporate governance frameworks and accountability in local government; and
* Familiarity with the local government sector and an understanding of the risks, challenges and opportunities facing Inverell Shire Council.
Responsibilities of Independent Members:
Independent Members are expected to:
* Comply with the NSW Audit & Risk Management Guidelines for Local Councils;
* Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings;
* Review meeting papers and apply sound analytical skills, objectivity and judgement;
* Abide by confidentiality and ethical obligations;
* Provide open and independent advice; and
* Undertake any follow-up actions requested by the Committee.
Remuneration:
$750.00 per meeting currently subject to change (excl. GST) plus travel expense reimbursed at cost.
