The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. The salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.
Kowanyama State School is located in the remote Indigenous community of Kowanyama, on the western side of Cape York Peninsula, near the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is a Kindy – Year 10 community school with an enrolment of approximately 220 students and a community of approximately 1200 people, situated 600km north west of Cairns.
Responsibilities
* Maintain school grounds, gardens, and outdoor areas to a high standard
* Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs and basic handyman tasks
* Ensure facilities are safe, clean and compliant with workplace health and safety requirements
* Assist with set-up and pack-down for school events and activities
* Monitor and maintain equipment, tools and maintenance schedules
* Liaise with line managers and contractors as required
* Proactively identify maintenance issues and report or address them promptly

Essential Qualities
* Demonstrated experience in grounds keeping, facilities maintenance or a similar hands‐on role
* Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
* Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
* Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
* Practical problem‐solving skills and initiative
* Ability to undertake physical work
* Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain
