About the Position
The College Nurse provides healthcare services to students in ELC-12 and collaborates with Deputy Heads of Primary and Secondary on student-related matters.
All staff are employed by the CEO & Executive Principal and must support the values, Christian ethos, and Ethical Statement of Moreton Bay College.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. The Health Centre operates from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday during term time, providing a facility for students to rest if they cannot attend class.
2. Nurses manage chronic conditions, illnesses like diabetes and epilepsy, and other medical issues.
3. They provide emergency first aid assistance to everyone on campus, including students, staff, and visitors.
4. Administration of prescribed medications and other medications as per parent instructions.
5. Recording students entering and leaving the Health Centre.
6. Recording medication administered to staff and students.
7. Contacting parents/guardians if students need to go home due to illness/injury.
8. Organizing ambulance transport to hospital when necessary.
9. Assisting with administrative organization of Queensland Government school vaccination programs at the College.
10. Advising parents on school policy regarding return to school after contagious illness.
11. Counseling students on good health habits when needed.
12. Assisting with documentation for Additional Needs Students Management Plan and Emergency Procedures.
13. Following Drugs and Poisons Act and MBC Drug Management and Administration Policy.
14. Continually updating professional development.
15. Communicating important health information through the newsletter to the College community.
16. Contributing to a safety citizenship culture upholding health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting, and safe work practices.

Management of the Health Centre
1. Maintaining a clean and tidy Health Centre at the end of each day.
2. Ensuring First Aid Cabinet supplies are available.
3. Assisting in ensuring First Aid supplies are accessible.
4. Maintaining portable First Aid Kits for the College.
5. Organizing bed linen laundering in the Health Centre.
6. Managing proformas and documentation for the Health Centre.
7. Completing Accident Reports when required.
8. Updating information related to the Health Centre and contagious illnesses in College Handbooks.

Professional Development
1. Addressing parent groups on health issues when necessary.
2. Attending professional development activities relevant to the role.
3. Providing in-service teaching and non-teaching staff on specific healthcare issues or equipment use.
4. Updating medical handout information for staff and coaches.

Skills and Abilities
* Reading, analyzing, and interpreting professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
* Presenting information effectively and responding to questions from staff, students, and parents.
* Defining problems and assessing situations calmly, quickly, and effectively.
* Assessing students presenting for admission.
* Determining appropriate medical dosage when necessary.
* Working well with students from ELC to Year 12.
* Collaborating effectively in a team situation.
* Recording data electronically.

Education, Certificates, and/or Experience
* Bachelor Of Nursing or General Certificate in Nursing or Enrolled Nurse, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and possession of an annual practicing certificate without medication restriction.
* Current AHPRA registration.
* Previous experience in pediatrics is highly desirable.
* HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support, and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

Work Environment
* The Health Centre is air-conditioned.
* Tasks include a range of activities from desk work to general tidy tasks, including organizing supplies in the Health Centre, making beds, etc. This requires an active person who can work on their feet for most of the day.
