**Assistant Zone Manager - Various Locations**
- Join the lead combat agency for floods, storms and tsunamis
- Use your operational experience to support volunteers and communities in preparing and responding to emergencies

- Full time ongoing roles located at Metford and Tamworth (x 3)
- Salary of up to $128,061 plus a 15% field allowance, superannuation and leave loading

**About the opportunity**

It is an exciting time to join the NSW SES as we commence the significant growth of our agency in supporting key programs of work to enhance the agency's response to emergencies. Some programs of work include enhancing our operational capability and response including fleet and vessel projects, flood rescue training and capability, increasing our workforce and volunteer membership, standing up to two new Zones in Western and Northern parts of NSW and upgrading our facilities to support Level 3 Incident Management Teams.

The NSW SES has an ongoing vacancy in its Northern Zone at Metford and three ongoing vacancies in our North Western Zone in Tamworth.

As the agency continues to grow its workforce, future vacancies may occur and be filled by talent pools. The NSW SES has a number of office locations and Headquarters across the State. In addition to the above locations, we also have HQs and offices in Lismore/Goonellabah, Dubbo, Bathurst, Rhodes, Goulburn, Wagga, Parkes and Gunnedah.

**About the role**

The Assistant Zone Manager role is both operational and strategic in nature. Utilising your strong skills and experience in supporting operational activity, this role will work with a Zone management team, managing and leading volunteer across Units and Clusters to ensure the readiness to respond to operational activity and emergencies. The role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining key relationships both internally and externally such as other emergency service agencies, councils and local communities.

The role will also work with other functional areas of the SES including the Capability & Training and the Volunteer Engagement teams to ensure the Units' workforce of volunteers are recruited, trained and are prepared to respond to emergencies.

The Assistant Zone Manager may act as Operations Commander or may be appointed as an Incident Controller. The role requires participation in operational activity, including on-call rosters during operational activity. Travel will be required in this role to visit Units across the Zones of responsibility and deployment to other Zones during operational activity.

The NSW SES serves the NSW community as the lead agency for floods, storms, and tsunamis as specified by the State Emergency Service Act 1989. We are recognised as the most versatile and widely used emergency service organisation in NSW. Our volunteers are highly skilled, experienced, and well
- trained in the wide variety of roles they perform.

Each NSW SES Unit is as unique and varied as the community it serves, reflecting the vast mix of risks faced and roles required in the diverse locations and communities across the state. In addition to flood, storm and tsunami, our Service provides specialist capabilities that include general land rescue, vertical rescue, road crash rescue, and alpine and remote area search and rescue. The NSW SES responded to over 64,000 requests for assistance from the community over the 2021-22 year.

The NSW SES has over 10,000 volunteer members, including reserves, and a full-time equivalent workforce of over 370. There are 262 volunteer Units across the State and our volunteer Units are either local, community-based Units, State-wide or regional Units established to provide specialist capabilities. They are varied and unique in their capabilities, designed to address specific risks to communities of NSW.
