Job Description
Position Purpose
The Qualified Hairdresser / Beautician plays a central role in delivering exceptional hair and beauty services that align with the salon's professional standards, customer expectations, and brand identity.
This position exists to provide clients with a positive, relaxing, and transformative experience through personalised services that enhance appearance, confidence, and wellbeing.
The role also contributes to the smooth running of the salon through mentoring apprentices, maintaining safe and hygienic workspaces, promoting products, and ensuring high standards of client engagement and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Hairdressing Services
Advanced cutting techniques for all genders, age groups, and hair types.
Colour applications including regrowth, global colour, highlights, balayage, ombré, colour corrections, and creative colours.
Chemical services such as keratin smoothing treatments, permanent waving, straightening, and speciality treatments.
Blow-drying, curling, straightening, styling for events, weddings, and formal occasions.
Application of professional salon treatments and scalp therapies.
Providing personalised advice on hair care routines and recommending appropriate at-home products.
Ensuring all services meet quality assurance standards and client expectations.
Beauty Therapy Services (where applicable)
Perform beauty treatments such as waxing, eyebrow shaping, eyelash tinting, facials, makeup application, basic nails, and skincare consultations.
Conduct skin assessments and identify suitable products and treatments for individual needs.
Maintain treatment rooms, ensure correct equipment setup, and follow infection-control practices.
Maintain confidentiality, privacy, and professional conduct during all treatments.
Customer Engagement – Provide a welcoming and positive experience to all clients from entry to departure, conduct thorough consultations to determine client goals, explain services, manage expectations, and provide after-care instructions and product recommendations.
Assist with appointment bookings, follow-up reminders, and client retention strategies.
Salon Maintenance & Hygiene – Ensure workstations, tools, sinks, treatment rooms, and common areas are clean, sanitised, and well-organised.
Follow and model NT Public and Environmental Health Guidelines for Hairdressing, Beauty and Body Art.
Sterilise and store tools correctly.
Dispose of waste responsibly, maintain stock levels, report shortages, and monitor product usage to prevent wastage.
Teamwork, Mentoring & Leadership – Actively contribute to a positive, supportive team environment.
Mentor apprentices, work-experience students, and junior staff through practical demonstrations, supervision, and coaching.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
Assist with new service development, promotions, and salon events.
Uphold salon values, policies, and standards at all times.
Sales & Business Support – Promote haircare and skincare products in line with client needs.
Assist in achieving weekly and monthly salon sales targets.
Recommend additional services that enhance client results.
Support reception duties including phone handling, appointment scheduling, and point-of-sale transactions.
Maintain professionalism when handling client concerns, feedback, or complaints.
Key Selection Criteria
Qualifications
Certificate III in Hairdressing (minimum requirement).
Certificate IV, Diploma or additional qualifications in Beauty Therapy, Makeup or similar (highly desirable).
Current first-aid certificate (desirable).
Training experience or mentorship capability (advantageous).
Skills
High-level technical hairdressing and/or beauty therapy skills.
Strong consultation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct in-depth assessments of client needs.
Sales and product knowledge skills.
Excellent hygiene, sanitation, and infection-control practices.
Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.

Compliance & Workplace Health and Safety
The Hairdresser / Beautician must comply with the NT Work Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
Follow all workplace policies including infection control, PPE, chemical handling and equipment care.
Perform risk assessments for beauty treatments where required.
Report hazards, incidents, or maintenance issues immediately.
Maintain safe working conditions at all times.
Organisational Relationships
Reports to Salon Manager / Director.
Works collaboratively with apprentices, receptionists and other stylists.
Interacts directly with suppliers, training providers (e.g., CDU apprentices) and external partners as required.
Conditions of Employment
Employment is governed by the Hair and Beauty Industry Award or relevant NT instrument.
Rostered hours may include weekend trading, late nights, and special events.
Uniform or dress code standards must be adhered to.

Probation period applies as per policy.
