About the Role
The Behaviour Support Practitioner will play a key role in the effective design, delivery and monitoring of behaviour support services for internal and external customers with NDIS funding for behaviour support and / or psychological assessment, therapy and training.
Some key responsibilities of the Behaviour Support Practitioner position will include:
Undertake functional and adaptive behaviour assessments covering all the factors, including environment, social, communication, developmental, trauma, medical and/or psychological aspects that may be contributing to the behaviours of concern with an emphasis on improving quality of life Utilise psychometric tools such as the Conners and ABAS to enable the description, conceptualisation, and prediction of relevant aspects of an individual's functioning, behaviour, and personality Develop written formulations and Functional Behaviour Assessment Reports that summarise the presenting, predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating, and protective factors for individuals Develop Interim and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans that meet the NDIS Commission requirements for the use of Restricted Practices and support their implementation. These Plans will focus on developing preventative, developmental, and remedial strategies to addressing behaviours of concern and improving subjective well-being Provide capacity building Person-Centred behaviour support services to a varied and complex caseload including people with intellectual, developmental, physical, and psychosocial disabilities. Develop, implement and monitor programs to address the identified goals and positive behaviour support strategies for the individual, family / carer, service providers and community (including consideration of cultural and language diversity, ageing and mental health issues, and geographical isolation) Engage in ongoing evaluation of the suitability and effectiveness of the implemented strategies together with families / carers and stakeholders, both informally and through participation in regular service reviews.

To be successful in this role, you will also have the following:
Relevant tertiary qualification in areas such as Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or other allied health, Community Services, Mental Health, Disability, Education, Youth Work, or working towards. Registration with the NDIS (Restrictive Practices and Behaviour Support) as a Behaviour Support Practitioner, or willingness and ability to obtain within 6 months of commencement. Current First Aid and CPR Certificates. Current unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence. Experience working with people who have complex needs and/or trauma backgrounds. An ability to relate to and positively influence the skills of a range of support staff such as Disability Support Workers, Case Managers, and Residential Support Workers.
Desirable
Experience in case management or coordination Highly developed knowledge of the issues, trends and philosophies underpinning the provision of services to children, young people in OOHC and people with a disability such as positive person-centred approaches Knowledge of the relevant legislation, policies, work practice requirements and procedures impacting on the delivery of services to children, young people and adults with an intellectual disability (including the NDIS Act, 2018 and the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998)
You will also be required to undertake and pass a National Criminal Check and pre-employment medical (including drug and alcohol screening.
