Primary objective
Provides strategic leadership to the division and the water assessment branch, and scientific advice and assessment of water
resources for the sustainable utilisation and management of the Northern Territory's water resources.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the water assessment branch to meet Government objectives and division priorities.
2. Manage the scientific assessment, investigation, monitoring, and modelling of the NT’s water resources including
groundwater, surface water and water quality.
3. Provide scientific assessment and advice in inform water allocation plans, water extraction licences and development
across the Territory.
4. Develop and deliver scientific program and projects, including financial, technical and progress reports for external and
internal reporting requirements.
5. Advise the Executive Director Water Resources and Chief Executive Officer on all matters relating to water resource
assessment and management in the Northern Territory.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Bachelor degree in Engineering, Applied or Natural Sciences.
2. Proven experience in leadership of a multi-disciplinary team of water scientists and specialists
3. Proven experience in management of complex projects with external project partners and agencies, and an ability to
deliver project outcomes with competing demands and priorities.
4. Extensive experience in contemporary tools and methodologies, including industry standards and guidelines for surface
water, groundwater, and water quality assessment outcomes.
5. Extensive knowledge of, and experience in water resource management in tropical and arid environments.
6. Proven high level oral and written communication skills and publication record.
7. Ability to develop and retain strong relationships, networks, and partnerships with other natural resources professionals.
8. Experience in remote communities and cultural aspects of water resources assessment, monitoring, and management.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
