About the opportunity
We invite you to become a valued member of our clinical team to further your veterinary career.
The Staff Veterinarian – Mixed Equine Anaesthesia Internship position is within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science. Our hospitals are the site for formal training for students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program.
The role will work within the School's University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals in Camden and Camperdown. The teaching hospitals provide clinical learning experience for veterinary students and staff engaged in professional training programs through provision of veterinary services to the public.
The internship is designed to further develop your skills in equine practice and veterinary anesthesia, with a goal of preparing you for a future residency in veterinary anesthesia. The program has been restructured, with approximately 60% of the time being dedicated to large and small animal anaesthesia. The remaining 40% will be spent involved in provision of equine ambulatory clinical service.
Interns will participate in most aspects of the teaching hospital activity (weekly morbidity and mortality rounds, journal club, and didactic seminars which are supervised by registered specialists). Support will be provided for interns to engage with research projects underway in the teaching hospitals with the opportunity to present research findings at the annual ANZCVS Science Week Conference.
Interns will be involved with supporting and assessing DVM students during practical classes and during their clinical rotations.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
* provide excellent equine clinical and anaesthesia services, under the supervision of registered specialists and senior veterinarians
* be engaged in the transformative education of future colleagues by providing opportunities for clinical teaching and support to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students
* supervise and perform routine treatment of ambulatory and hospitalised patients.
