Position Title
Media Officer
Position Summary
The Media Officer plays a key role in supporting MDAS's communications, media presence, and storytelling. This position is responsible for developing and delivering culturally appropriate media, digital content, and promotional activities that accurately represent MDAS, reflect community priorities, and strengthen organisational visibility.
Working closely with internal teams, community members, and external stakeholders, the Media Officer ensures communications are respectful, consistent, and effective across all platforms while upholding MDAS values, policies, and cultural responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities Media & Communications
* Develop content for digital, print, and social media platforms in line with approved messaging and MDAS branding guidelines
* Draft newsletters, website updates, social media posts, and promotional materials under direction
* Support internal and external media initiatives
* Escalate issues or reputational risks to the Manager of Media
* Build and maintain relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders to source content, coordinate approvals, and ensure consistency
* Coordinate and implement media and communications projects aligned with community priorities
* Provide proactive communications support to MDAS programs and staff
* Collaborate with suppliers to develop MDAS merchandise that reflects brand and cultural integrity
* Ensure brand consistency, cultural accuracy, and high-quality standards across all materials
* Support marketing campaigns, event promotion, and awareness initiatives
* Attend meetings, forums, and community activities as required
* Research and coordinate advertising and promotional requirements across programs
Digital & Social Media
* Update and maintain website and social media platforms under the direction of the Senior Communications Officer
* Monitor online engagement and prepare basic analytics reports when required
* Coordinate marketing campaigns and event promotions
* Assist with maintaining the content calendar
* Ensure tasks and projects are delivered within agreed timelines
* Create culturally appropriate digital content that reflects community priorities, cultural protocols, and informed consent
Storytelling & Content Creation
* Work with program teams to gather stories, content, and information
* Build strong internal relationships to support communication needs
* Attend events to capture approved content, including videos, quotes, and updates
Corporate Responsibilities
* Support and uphold values that respect Aboriginal cultures and recognise their enduring connection to Country
* Promote compliance with relevant legislation and MDAS policies and procedures
* Assist with internal and external audits
* Comply with Quality, Risk, Occupational Health and Safety standards, safe work practices, and continuous improvement initiatives
Key Selection Criteria Experience & Skills
* Demonstrated experience in communications, media, marketing, or a related field
* Ability to develop clear, engaging written content under direction
* Experience managing social media platforms and website content
* Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
* Sound judgement within defined procedures
* Demonstrated skills or experience in creating Aboriginal artwork and culturally grounded content
* Understanding of local cultural protocols and community knowledge
* Ability to assist with the production of branding assets, promotional material, and campaigns under guidance
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
* Working knowledge of design platforms (e.g. Adobe, Canva) and Microsoft Word, or willingness to learn
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong storytelling ability

Qualifications & Screening Requirements
* Qualifications or demonstrated experience in Public Relations, Marketing, Media, or Design
* Current Victorian Driver's Licence
* Current Working with Children Check
* Current National Police Check
