Purpose of the Role
BGIS is seeking an experienced Handy Person to support a newly acquired Victorian Government portfolio based in East Melbourne. Working across a prominent civic precinct, you will deliver planned and reactive maintenance services that keep essential public facilities running safely and smoothly.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work collaboratively with site teams, subcontractors, and key stakeholders to achieve contract KPIs, maintain compliance, and uphold high service standards.
This role suits someone hands-on, dependable, and solutions-focused — a practical team member who takes pride in quality workmanship and values safe, respectful workplaces.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform general building maintenance including carpentry, painting, minor plumbing, tiling, patching and repairs
* Deliver preventative and corrective maintenance across site assets
* Accurately record works in QFM and maintain compliance documentation in QMS
* Support Facilities Managers with reporting, minor capital works and planning activities
* Liaise with and monitor subcontractors to ensure safe and compliant service delivery
* Maintain strong safety practices aligned with OHS and Environmental Management Systems
* Build positive relationships with site stakeholders and the broader precinct community
* Participate in occasional ad hoc on-call requirements
Education, Experience & Skills
Essential:
* Experience in a building, trade or facilities maintenance environment
* Demonstrated understanding of QA, OHS, and environmental systems
* Ability to manage competing priorities and respond calmly to changing site needs
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
* Competency using maintenance management systems and basic Microsoft Office
Desirable:
* Handy Person experience across plumbing, painting, tiling, carpentry and general repairs
* Training in current OH&S and QA legislation
* Experience working within government or large property portfolios
