About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and professional Phlebotomist / Pathology Collector to join our GP clinic on a casual basis. The successful candidate will perform high-quality specimen collection, deliver excellent patient care, and support the clinic with both clinical and administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Pathology Collection Duties
* Perform venepuncture and capillary blood collection for patients of all ages.
* Collect specimens including blood, urine, faecal samples, swabs, and other samples as required.
* Ensure correct patient identification, labelling, and documentation in line with NATA/RCPA and clinic protocols.
* Prepare specimens for transport to external laboratories, ensuring correct handling and storage.
* Maintain hygiene, equipment, and infection-control standards within the collection area.
* Provide patient care and reassurance, especially for children, elderly, and anxious patients.
* Use clinic or pathology software for test ordering, patient identification, and result processing.
Administrative Duties
* Greet patients and assist with check-in or appointment queries when required.
* Manage pathology request forms and ensure correct documentation is completed and filed.
* Enter patient details and test orders into the clinic or pathology system accurately.
* Handle incoming phone calls related to pathology services and patient enquiries.
* Assist with scanning, filing, and uploading documents into the electronic medical record (EMR).
* Monitor and order pathology consumables and administrative supplies as needed.
* Support reception staff during busy periods, including patient flow management.
* Follow all privacy, confidentiality, and data security protocols.
* Assist the clinical team with general administrative tasks to ensure smooth daily operations.
Essential Criteria
* Certificate III or IV in Pathology Collection (or equivalent).
* Demonstrated experience in venepuncture and specimen collection.
* Strong understanding of infection control and quality assurance procedures.
* Excellent communication skills and patient service focus.
* Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
* Basic computer skills and ability to learn clinic software.
* Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain.
* Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain.
* Up-to-date immunisation status for healthcare settings.
Desirable Criteria
* Previous experience in a GP clinic or community pathology service.
* Experience using medical software (Best Practice).
* First Aid/CPR certification.
