Downer is seeking a motivated Production Coordinator to play a key role in supporting the operation and performance of our asphalt production teams across our plants in Somerton and Bayswater. Based out of Somerton, you will assist with planning, scheduling, forging strong relationships with internal stakeholders and customers, problem solving, plant optimisation, and calibration and maintenance activities.
This position is hands‐on, collaborative, and vital to ensuring our operations run safely, efficiently and in line with customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
* Support production supervisors with shift‐by‐shift planning, scheduling and coordination to ensure timely, in‐specification asphalt production and dispatch.
* Monitor asphalt plant performance, analyse scorecards, identify trends and drive efficiency, quality and cost‐saving improvements.
* Act as key point of contact for customers, troubleshooting issues and coordinating with internal teams to deliver timely and practical solutions.
* Work with the laboratory team to adjust plant settings, resolve non‐conformances and maintain consistent, compliant production.
* Forecast and order raw materials, and ensure all plant, weighbridge and equipment calibrations are completed on schedule.
* Conduct plant inspections, support maintenance planning and perform site checks to verify safe and legal truck loading.
* Assist with weekly resourcing and rostering in line with fatigue management requirements and help onboard new personnel and subcontractors.
* Contribute to a strong Zero Harm culture by supporting safety initiatives, identifying risks and ensuring corrective actions are closed out promptly.
What You'll Bring
* Tertiary qualification in Engineering preferred (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or similar).
* Ideally 2-5 years in a similar engineering, maintenance or production role.
* Experience with production plants such as asphalt, concrete, brick, quarry, mining or similar (highly regarded).
* Strong understanding of CMMS planning and scheduling.
* Strong analytical, technical and problem‐solving abilities.
* Self‐motivated, inquisitive and technically minded.
* Comfortable leading by example and getting hands‐on when required.
* Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate firmly and respectfully.
