We invite expressions of interest for Chair and member positions on the Queensland Mental Health and Drug Advisory Council. Positions are appointed for a three-year term by the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services.

Open to people living across Queensland, Membership on the Advisory Council offers an opportunity to inform and shape strategic system reform across Queensland's mental health, alcohol and other drug, and suicide prevention systems.

Expressions of interest are invited for Chair and member positions on the Queensland Mental Health & Drug Advisory Council (the Advisory Council). The Advisory Council was established under the Queensland Mental Health Commission Act 2013 (the Act) on 1 July 2013.

It advises and supports the Queensland Mental Health Commission (the Commission) to undertake its role to drive ongoing system reform towards a more integrated, evidence-based, recovery-oriented mental health, alcohol and other drugs and suicide prevention system, focussing on;


* improving mental health and wellbeing
* preventing and reducing the impact of mental illness
* preventing and reducing the impact of alcohol and other drug concerns, and
* preventing and reducing the impact of suicide.

The Advisory Council plays a pivotal role in providing advice on system-level barriers and opportunities, development of reform priorities, and identification of enablers for meaningful, cross-sectoral reform. This includes improvement opportunities within and across the health system, and broader systems that shape mental wellbeing, such as housing and homelessness, education, employment, justice, child protection, family and domestic violence, and social and economic participation. Through this advice, the Advisory Council helps enables strategic reform to be grounded by the diverse needs of Queenslanders.

In Acknowledgement Of The Complexity Of Issues Faced By Queenslanders, The Commission Is Inviting People 18 Years And Over From Across Queensland's Diverse Communities And Groups To Apply, Including But Not Limited To
* Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
* Rural, regional and remote communities
* culturally and linguistic diverse communities
* LGBTQIA+ communities

Knowledge and expertise take many forms. You may be suitable for membership to the Council if you are:
* A person with experience or expertise including lived experience in any field that provides insights into issues associated with mental health and wellbeing, suicidality, and/or alcohol and other drug use concerns (For example; employment, housing and homelessness, veteran supports, child or youth supports, education)
* An academic with expertise in mental health (including expertise across any component of the continuum care), alcohol and other drugs and/or suicidality
* A person with experience in systems-level reform
* A person with an established career in mental health, alcohol and other drugs and/or suicide prevention service delivery, service planning, policy development or research
* A person with a lived-living experience of mental ill-health, suicidality, and/or alcohol and other drug use concerns including utilising service system supports in Queensland and/or a carer, family member of loved one. This may include experience with child and youth through to older person services and across the continuum of care from crisis care through to extended treatment.

Selection will be based on your experience and ability to actively and meaning contribution to a solution-focused approach to systemic reform and the overall expertise needed within the Council.

Prior experience on boards, advisory groups, and/or advisory committees will be viewed favourably but is not mandatory.

Council meetings are scheduled five times a year.
