Primary objective
Provide leadership, expert advice and editorial services to strategically guide the production and publication of a diverse
range of geoscientific reports, data products and promotional materials.
Context statement
NTGS is the custodian of knowledge and data on the Territory's geology and resources and undertakes activities to support
and grow the resources exploration industry including publishing geoscientific reports, maps, data packages and promotional
material.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the Publications team to deliver high quality, timely and effective publication services.
2. Edit NTGS publications and liaise with authors and contractors to ensure high publication standards.
1. Develop and implement standards, processes and workflows to ensure best practice, high quality and timely publishing.
2. Ensure appropriate project management including reporting against strategic and business plans to achieve the required
outcomes.
1. Actively monitor and review publishing practices and trends to ensure appropriate and timely adoption of new or improved
technology, standards or formats.
6. Provide expert advice on publishing processes and report preparation to staff and management.
1. Coordinate public release of all NTGS products including maps and data published through other channels.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification in the geosciences, preferably in geology.
2. Proven ability to effectively lead and manage a team, think strategically and motivate others.
3. Experience and demonstrated high level of ability in preparation and editing of publications, particularly substantive or
structural editing.
4. Sound knowledge of the design and publication of specialised and technical publications using graphic design and desktop
publishing software.
5. Thorough understanding of information management principles in support of timely high-quality publishing.
6. Well-developed project management and organisational skills, and ability to achieve objectives within set time frames.
7. High level of interpersonal and communication skills including report writing and presentation.
8. Sound knowledge of publishing trends in scientific organisations, copyright and access issues, and the technologies
available for desktop publishing and information delivery via different channels.
