Overview
We are seeking an energetic Deli / Fresh Food Team Member to join our team at IGA Youngtown. You will be required to work independently, but under the direction and supervision of our Fresh Food Manager. We are looking for someone who has previous experience in a food preparation and handling role within the food industry, either in a retail workplace, in a delicatessen or in a hospitality role.
Responsibilities
preparing and serving a variety of fresh deli products, including slicing meats and cheeses, assembling sandwiches, and packaging items for sale
maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the deli area, including stocking shelves, rotating inventory, and keeping the display cases well-stocked and presentable
providing friendly and knowledgeable assistance to customers, answering questions about products and making recommendations
ensuring the produce section is kept tidy, clean and visually appealing to customers
placing and unpacking deliveries, rotating stock and maintaining appropriate stock levels
perform freshness checks and ensure produce meets our high standards
adhering to all food safety and hygiene standards
assisting with opening / closing the store
assisting with other store operations as needed
collaborating with the wider retail team to provide a seamless shopping experience
Qualifications & Skills
previous experience working in a retail or customer service role, preferably in a deli or food service environment
strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service
attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and accurately
flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, early mornings, evenings and public holidays
a passion for fresh, quality food and a commitment to food safety
ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 15kg regularly
a sound knowledge of food safety standards
a positive, enthusiastic and reliable approach to work
possess a positive 'can do' attitude
