Barkly Regional Arts is seeking a Visual Arts Manager to lead a multi-studio visual arts program across the Barkly region and drive meaningful creative impact in remote community art spaces. ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Barkly Regional Arts is a vibrant community-based arts organisation located in Tennant Creek, Northern Territory. Our mission is to foster creativity, cultural exchange, and artistic expression within the Barkly region, enriching the lives of residents and visitors alike through diverse programming, workshops, exhibitions, and community events.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Visual Arts Manager takes a leading role in the delivery of Barkly Regional Arts' Visual Arts program by taking responsibility for the operational management of four art studios in Tennant Creek, Epenarra, Canteen Creek and Elliott. The Visual Arts Manager oversees the coordination of outreach to remote studios and leads the development and delivery of the visual arts program.

Key Responsibilities:

* Work with a team to develop an annual program for visual arts and take a leading role in the delivery of the program.
* Take a leading role in the delivery of arts worker/artist development programs.
* Supervise and coordinate visiting artists and workshop practitioners as required.
* Promote artist development in art centres.
* Oversee preparation of materials for art studios, including ordering materials, stretching canvases, mixing paint, and distributing paint.
* Ensure art studios are open and accessible to community members.
* Ensure art sales platforms are up-to-date and active.
* Support in the coordination of cataloguing, sales and artist payments.
* Support in identifying and applying for funding options for visiting artists workshops, employment opportunities, and professional development opportunities for artists.
* Coordinate with the studio outreach coordinator and travel to remote communities with the support of visual arts staff including overnight stays as needed.
* Coordinate community arts workers.
* Promote arts worker development in remote communities, including mentorship and empowerment of arts workers through training and collaborative decision making.
* Build and maintain strong relationships between Barkly Regional Arts and remote artists.
* Build and maintain strong relationships between Barkly Regional Arts and other services in remote communities, including identifying possible collaborations.
* Work with arts workers to maximise functionality of remote art centres.
* Work with arts workers to manage stock in remote art centres.
* Support the delivery of events in remote communities.
* Gather information from artists to assist in updating artist biographies.
* Identify and implement sustainable systems to support the long-term success of the outreach program, including the management of in remote communities.
SALARY & ENTITLEMENTS

$85,000 – $90,000 per year.

Job Type: Full-time.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful applicant will be a self-starter, relationship-focused and able to demonstrate a sustained commitment to hard work and high professional standards. You are adaptable, flexible, and capable of creative problem solving in a challenging socio-geographical context. You are highly personable and capable of building and maintaining relationships with artists, customers, and community stakeholders.

* Arts-related university qualification or equivalent experience
* Demonstrated understanding of the Indigenous visual arts sector
* Demonstrated experience working with marginalised peoples
* Experience working with Indigenous people in a remote context
* Experience working in an art centre setting
* Technical understanding of art and art making
* Experience working with creatives in a creative environment
* Team leadership experience
