Role Summary
We are looking for an L2 Windows & Virtualization Engineer who will support and manage Windows Server environments and virtual infrastructure (VMware vSphere/ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper‐V). The role includes incident resolution, service request fulfilment. We are seeking a Windows & SQL Server Express Migration Engineer to lead/execute the migration of workloads from Windows Server 2012 hosting SQL Server Express to Windows Server 2022 hosting SQL Server Express. The engineer will be responsible for end-to-end migration planning, build, data movement, application connectivity updates, testing, cutover, rollback planning, and post‐migration stabilization while ensuring minimal downtime and compliance with security baselines.
Key Responsibilities
Windows Server Operations (L2)
* Provide L2 operational support for Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) in production environments.
* Troubleshoot and resolve Windows OS issues, server performance problems, event log errors, and service failures.
* Manage core services:
* Active Directory (AD) administration (user/group management, OU structures, basic troubleshooting)
* DNS/DHCP operations and issue resolution
* Group Policy (GPO) troubleshooting and baseline enforcement
* Perform Windows patching and update management (WSUS/SCCM/3rd party tools) including:
* Rollback and incident handling
* Support server hardening activities, baseline compliance, and audit readiness (as per organization standards).
* Manage Windows services/app components such as IIS, file services, print services (if applicable).
* Provide L2 support for VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) and/or Hyper‐V environments.
* Perform VM lifecycle activities:
* Resource allocation (CPU/RAM/storage adjustments)
* Snapshots management and cleanup best practices
* vMotion/Live Migration support and troubleshooting
* Troubleshoot virtualization-related issues:
* VM performance bottlenecks (CPU ready, memory ballooning, datastore latency)
* Host alarms, cluster health, HA/DRS behaviours (basic to intermediate)
* Coordinate with storage/network teams for issues related to datastores, VLANs, trunking, and connectivity.
Must‐Have Technical Skills
* 3–5 years (or aligned experience) in Windows Server administration and L2 operations.
Strong Knowledge of
* Windows Server 2012/2016/2019/2022
* AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO
* Windows troubleshooting (services, registry basics, event viewer, performance monitor)
* Hands‐on exposure to virtualization:
* VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter and/or Microsoft Hyper‐V
* Scripting/automation basics:
* PowerShell (user provisioning, services checks, basic automation)
