Senior Java Engineer | API & Integration (Martech / Digital Platforms) | Gold Coast
Base salary: $160K + Super + Bonus. Hybrid working model.
The Company
We are partnering with a leading Australian financial services organisation within its Marketing & Communications technology domain, focused on delivering highly scalable, secure, and API‐first digital capabilities across a complex enterprise ecosystem. The team sits at the intersection of marketing technology and enterprise engineering, supporting critical customer engagement platforms and modern integration services.
This is an opportunity to join a forward‐thinking engineering environment that is heavily invested in event‐driven architecture, microservices, and modern cloud‐native delivery.
You'll work alongside experienced engineers, architects and product teams to shape how digital integration is designed and delivered at scale.
Role Overview
Design and build backend and integration solutions using Java (8/11/17), Spring Boot and Hibernate/JPA. Define and deliver RESTful APIs aligned to enterprise standards, ensuring they are well‐documented using Swagger/OpenAPI with a focus on scalability, security and maintainability.
Deeply involved in developing microservices and reusable components that support data ingestion, orchestration and downstream system delivery. Focus on Kafka‐based event streaming: topic design, schema definition, consumer patterns and resilient pub/sub architecture.
Ensure systems meet high non‐functional requirements, including performance, reliability and observability, monitored via Splunk. Provide technical leadership: mentor engineers, support solution design decisions and uphold engineering standards.
Skills
* Java, Spring Boot / Spring Cloud, Hibernate and REST API development
* Experience designing and documenting APIs using Swagger / OpenAPI
* Proven experience with Apache Kafka, including event streaming, topic/schema design and consumer management
* Strong understanding of secure API design – OAuth2, JWT, authentication best practices
* Experience with microservices architecture, CI/CD pipelines and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
* Exposure to observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk
If this sounds like a strong match for your experience and you're looking to step into a high‐impact engineering role within a modern, API‐driven environment, we'd love to hear from you.
