Overview
Geotechnical Engineer role at Tanami reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer. The role covers geotechnical tasks associated with large sub‐level open stope mining with pastefill, including underground inspections, design, numerical modelling, data collection, monitoring, and assessing stopes and other excavations for stability.
Responsibilities
* Underground inspections, data collection, monitoring, reviewing and approving development and production designs.
* Provide timely geotechnical design reports with a focus on stope designs.
* Use numerical modelling as input into designs and monitor performance of stopes and other mine designs, resulting in reconciliation and back‐analysis of performance.
* Actively identify and manage geotechnical risks and apply systems to monitor and manage these.
* Perform backfill design tasks when required.
* Complete site investigations of rockfall, rock noise and geotechnical hazards.
* Update and report on rockfalls, seismicity and other databases.
* Interact and engage with mine operations and projects teams to ensure implementation of geotechnical designs and ground control initiatives.
* Maintain strong working relationships with Mining Operations, Technical Services and other disciplines to maintain a culture of cooperation and teamwork.
Qualifications
* History of strong performance in an underground mine working with diverse teams.
* Ability to provide technical knowledge with excellent communication skills.
* Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering, Geology or Engineering Geology with a focus on geotechnical.
* Strong knowledge of Deswik, MDM and RocscienceTM suite (or similar); experience with MAP3D and/or FLAC3D/Stope X numerical modelling is ideal; experience with seismic analysis software is ideal.
* Exposure to deep mining and ability to anticipate and interpret rock‐mass response and behaviour preferable.
* Experience with underground LiDAR scanning, processing and application tools and software is ideal.
* Minimum 3–6 years of experience predominantly in underground geotechnical engineering, including operational experience.
* Must meet site access requirements: current driver's licence, police clearance and pre‐employment medical.

Based in Tanami with an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin and Alice Springs. Accommodation is provided in a fully equipped camp with modern leisure facilities.
