About the role
You will play a key role in supporting heritage assessments by collecting, creating, managing, and analysing spatial data. The position combines GIS mapping and data integration to document Aboriginal, historical, and built heritage studies in compliance with state and Commonwealth legislation.
Key responsibilities
•Develop high-quality cartography and spatial datasets for heritage reporting
•Assist field surveys and site recording using GPS and digital tools
•Maintain accurate geodatabases and metadata records
•Ensure spatial data supports heritage compliance and reporting standards
•Engaging face-to-face and remotely with a diverse team, building strong and collaborative relationships based on trust and credibility
•Liaising with external parties including clients and Government agencies regarding the creation and exchange of spatial data, including but not limited to Aboriginal Victoria/Heritage Victoria
Essential skills and experience
•Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar)
•Experience with GPS and mobile data collection tools
•Strong understanding of spatial data management
•Willingness to work in the field
•Excellent communication and teamwork skills
•Tertiary qualifications in GIS, Archaeology, Environmental Science, or related field
•You must have the legal right to work in Australia
Desirable skills and experience
• Experience with ESRI Fieldmaps & Survey 123
•Ability to demonstrate experience working in heritage
•Familiarity with heritage legislation and reporting processes in Australia
•Knowledge of Australian Aboriginal and/or historical heritage practices
