About The Branch
The Litigation and Dispute Resolution (LDR) Branch comprises about 60 legal practitioners and ~35 legal support staff. The branch handles a diverse range of litigation and advisory matters, including personal injury claims, police civil claims, coronial inquests, vexatious litigant applications, tortious claims, defamation, post-sentence detention orders, judicial review, and matters involving the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act.
The Role
As a Solicitor in the LDR Branch you will support and manage complex and sensitive litigation across a diverse range of cases and provide high-quality legal services to government clients.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Handling personal injury litigation (negligence and breach of statutory duty)
- Addressing historical institutional abuse claims involving former minors and young persons in state care
- Managing contempt of court and vexatious litigant claims
- Working on matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997
- Conducting judicial reviews, asset confiscation, coronial inquests, public liability cases, and subpoenas
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to support other streams of work within the branch to ensure a varied and enriching experience.
Skills And Experience
- Just-admitted or early-career Solicitor, or an experienced Solicitor seeking a change in career
- Ability to review, manage, and conduct complex and sensitive proceedings in state courts and tribunals, with knowledge of civil procedure
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple complex files concurrently
- Experience handling general personal injury matters and/or acting for insurers in civil litigation is highly regarded
- Proven ability to provide oral and written advice on complex matters, with strong legal research and analysis
