Townsville Hospital and Health Service invites applications for an Attending Physician, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PICU) at Townsville University Hospital, Queensland.
This permanent full-time position offers a rare opportunity to practice in Australia's only tropical, standalone PICU, serving a vast and diverse population across Northern Queensland.
As part of a dynamic and expanding team, you will deliver high-acuity care, participate in retrieval services to remote regions including Cape York and the Torres Strait, and contribute to education, research, and service development.
This role combines clinical excellence with the chance to shape paediatric critical care in one of the most unique and rewarding environments in the world.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-acuity care to critically ill children across TUH's Pediatric ICU and High Dependency Unit.
Participate in the Yalurin Pediatric Retrieval Service, transporting patients from remote regions including Cape York, Torres Strait, and the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Deliver evidence-based care for a complex caseload including major trauma, marine envenomation, post-operative support, and multi-organ monitoring.
Collaborate with TUH's expanding pediatric sub-specialties and world-class paediatric radiology service.
Contribute to education and mentoring of junior consultants, trainees, and allied health staff.
Participate in clinical governance, service development, audit, and research initiatives.
Engage in outreach support and advisory services to surrounding health services.
Share an equitable on-call roster covering PICU and retrieval operations.
Candidate Requirements
Proof of qualification and specialist registration with AHPRA (or eligibility for registration).
Experience in paediatric intensive care and retrieval medicine.
Engagement in teaching, mentoring, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Benefits
Remuneration package up to AUD$536,916 p.a. (approx. USD $350,000; L18–L27).
