Position: Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson

McDowall Affleck Pty Ltd has been a successful Engineering Consultancy business since 2009, providing design solutions and project management for Mechanical, Structural and Civil engineering. The business has been expanding into the infrastructure sector including Water, Power/Renewable energy, Infrastructure, and Transport.
As part of our growth, we are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson to support our Mechanical team. The ideal candidate will have a relevant Australian qualification or equivalent and at least 3 years of full-time experience. The Draftsperson will assist Mechanical Engineers by preparing detailed technical drawings and documentation used in the design, fabrication and installation of mechanical equipment and systems.
Responsibilities
* Develop and prepare detailed mechanical drawings, layouts and design documentation using computer-aided design (CAD) software in support of Mechanical Engineers
* Support engineering staff in developing and refining mechanical designs for machinery, equipment and plant installations
* Assist in the preparation of engineering layouts and assembly drawings for manufacturing, installation and maintenance purposes
* Utilise drafting tools and technologies, including CAD software and specialised design applications, to produce accurate engineering drawings
* Prepare and update technical drawings used for the fabrication, assembly and installation of mechanical components, machinery and hydraulic systems
* Assist engineers in identifying material specifications and estimating quantities and material requirements for mechanical components and equipment
* Provide drafting and documentation support for engineering analysis by compiling technical information and preparing diagrams where required
* Carry out basic technical calculations and measurements to ensure the accuracy of dimensions, tolerances and engineering specifications
* Review and revise drawings to ensure designs comply with project specifications, engineering standards and relevant regulatory requirements
* Coordinate with engineers, designers and project managers to ensure drawings accurately reflect design requirements and project specifications
* Support engineers during project development by providing drafting updates and assisting in resolving technical drawing issues
Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant drafting qualifications and at least 3 years of full-time experience in the role
* Understanding of mechanical design principles and technical drawing standards
* Exposure to engineering manufacturing processes
* Ability to interpret engineering specifications and translate them into detailed drawings
* Developing understanding of AS1100
* Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Inventor
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing technical documentation
* Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams
