Primary objective
Triage, assess and facilitate dispute resolution of complaints in accordance with the powers and functions of the Anti-
Discrimination Commission (ADC) and respond to enquiries from the public.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Act as the first point of contact for complaints and enquiries about alleged discriminatory conduct, providing clear information
about the Commission’s role and processes.
2. Assist the Complaints Team to triage and manage incoming enquiries and complaints, ensuring matters are well-organised and
progressed in a timely way.
3. Assess complaints to determine if they disclose grounds for acceptance under the provisions of the Act.
4. Support the Complaints Team by gathering relevant information and preparing complaints for conciliation or evaluation.
5. Facilitate communication between parties and assist with negotiations and dispute resolution where appropriate.
6. Prepare complex correspondence, reports, and summaries to a high standard.
7. Gather evidence and evaluate accepted complaints for the purpose of determining whether a matter should proceed to a
Tribunal hearing.
8. Contribute to community awareness by assisting with information sessions and promoting understanding of anti-discrimination
law when required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. An understanding of the Act and related practice, with the ability to assess complaints and apply the law fairly and accurately
to nuanced factual scenarios.
2. Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with experience preparing clear reports and correspondence, and the
ability to engage effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
3. Proven ability to interact with complainants using a trauma-informed approach that recognises the impact of lived experience,
while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
4. Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines while remaining calm, skilled, and responsive to enquiries.
5. Understanding and experience of conducting alternative dispute resolution processes.
6. Proven time management skills and ability to prioritise and self-manage a large workload with minimal supervision.
7. Demonstrated ability to interact with people at all levels and to work well as a member of a small, highly motivated team.
8. Ability to safeguard personal wellbeing.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (law, social sciences, or human rights) or equivalent experience.
