Clearwaters is partnering Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) to appoint the newly created position General Manager Applied Intelligence reporting to the Chief Aviation Officer. QAL is owned by global private equity giant KKR, private investment fund Skip Capital and private investment fund Perron Group.
QAL owns and operates Gold Coast and Townsville Airports along with regional airports Mount Isa and Longreach. KKR and Skip Capital took majority control in 2025 with continued investment and focus on growth initiatives there is a desire to leverage data, analytics and insights to drive future business performance.
The Chief Aviation Officer is chiefly responsible for passenger growth, growing existing and building new relationships with airlines therefore creating more revenue opportunities and increasing customer experience and loyalty.
The General Manager Applied Intelligence must lead a function that pioneers advanced data strategies and solutions driven by Artificial Intelligence that transforms decision-making, optimises operations, and unlocks new revenue streams.
You will be tasked with building and then leading a high performing, high impact team that can act as the heartbeat of the organisation to drive data driven decision making in every area.
QAL has a settled, capable and diverse executive team and engaged investors. The executive team are a group of smart, passionate and innovative individuals with a clear strategy to be data first and data led in all future decisions they make. In conjunction with the Chief Aviation Officer you will engage and influence the SLT and ELT on how to become a data first organisation to increase commercial opportunities, improve business processes and increase speed and efficiency of decision making.
Key objectives of the position include:
* Data Strategy and Data Governance frameworks - Develop and manage an integrated, enterprise-wide data strategy aligned with QAL's vision and organisational goals. Establish and manage data governance frameworks that uphold organisational cyber security standards by maintaining robust security measures around data, ensuring its integrity, confidentiality, and compliance
* Business Intelligence and Analytics - Lead the design and delivery of business intelligence solutions that provide actionable insights for all business units. Oversee the development and implementation of advanced analytics, reporting, and visualisation tools.
* Automation & Process Improvement - Work with the Technology team and other departments to find and promote ways to use data insights for automating business processes and improving efficiency.
* Stakeholder Engagement & Enablement - Build partnerships with QAL Technology, vendors, industry bodies, and peer organisations to advance QAL's data capabilities. Provide expert advice and support to executive leadership on data-driven efficiency, opportunities and risks.
* Management and Leadership - Lead and develop the Data & Insights team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
We are seeking an experienced leader who has built high performing, well structured teams previously. You will need to demonstrate a keen eye for people leadership and team development. You will need to be technically strong with time spent in engineering or architecture and commercially minded with examples of where your data & analytics function has driven commercial outcomes.
This person MUST be based on the Gold Coast or with the ability to travel to the Gold Coast at their own expense at least 2 or 3 days per week. Fostering strong connections and building trusted relationships will be crucial to the success of this position.
