As a Certified Gardener at the City of Stonnington, you will:
1. Work across diverse horticultural settings within a supportive team with broad skills.
2. Maintain the City’s high-quality and well-maintained open spaces to a high standard.
3. Demonstrate strong horticultural skills in a positive team environment.
Key responsibilities include:
* Maintain horticultural assets in a clean, green, and safe condition.
* Apply knowledge of plant cultural requirements in parks, reserves, and streetscapes.
* Undertake pruning, feeding, pest and disease control, and water management.
* Plant in parks, gardens, and buildings, selecting appropriate plants.
* Control weeds, mulch, clear debris, and litter.
* Operate horticultural machinery such as leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and brush cutters.
* Monitor hazards and respond to inquiries from park users.
This is a permanent part-time role, working 3 days per week (22.8 hours), with an annual salary of $72,284 - $77,266 (pro-rata for part-time) plus 11.5% superannuation. Work hours are from 7 am to 3:30 pm each day.
Desired Skills and Experience
To succeed, you will need:
* Maintenance gardening skills for diverse open space settings, including parks and natural areas.
* Relevant industry experience in municipal horticulture, especially in high-profile public gardens.
* Ability to operate horticultural tools and machinery safely, following SWMS.
* Ability to conduct routine playground inspections.
* Effective communication skills to work cooperatively with staff, community, and customers.
* Ability to implement Traffic Management Plans when working on roadways.
* A relevant Trade Certificate, Chemical Users Certificate, and competence with mechanical plant, backed by substantial relevant experience.
