Senior Front End Developer, AI/ML Software Engineer
IP Australia is seeking a senior front‐end developer with full‐stack capabilities within the Innovation and Digital Services division. The role is part of the AI & Frontier Technologies team and involves developing software systems that leverage emerging technologies and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
Contract Details
Contract length: Initial 12 months, with up to two 12‐month extensions.Estimated start date: Friday, 3 April 2026.Location: ACT, VIC (Hybrid).Working arrangements: Hybrid – preferred in‐office with flexible remote options. Must travel to Canberra 2‐3 days for onboarding and up to 4 times a year, at own expense.Hours: 8 hours per day.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Write and deliver software components in collaboration with software developers, systems analysts and machine learning engineers.
* Develop Proofs of Concept in a fast‐paced Agile environment.
* Build production capabilities as part of a multi‐disciplinary team.
* Contribute to the application of emerging technologies and innovative approaches aligned with the agency's vision.
* Deliver solutions on the AWS platform, emphasizing server‐less architectures.
* Maintain excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
Requirements
* Senior – EL1 equivalent experience level.
* Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Vue.js.
* Hands‐on experience with CI/CD tools (preferably Jenkins).
* Proven delivery using the AWS platform, especially server‐less services.
* Experience in Agile delivery practices.
* Experience in DevOps practices.
* Strong autonomy and communication skills.
* Relevant ICT qualifications and/or industry certifications.
* Baseline security clearance (must obtain).
Essential Criteria (Weighting)
* Extensive experience developing solutions with JavaScript/TypeScript in Vue.js – 50%
* Demonstrated ability to work within a multi‐disciplinary Agile team delivering Proofs of Concept, building production capabilities and maintaining existing systems – 15%
* Experience with emerging technologies and AI/ML applications – 15%
* Relevant ICT qualifications and certifications – 20%
