Job Opportunity: Digital Preservation Specialist
The Cambridge University Library is undertaking a pioneering five-year Digital Preservation Programme to establish the new Digital Preservation Service.
This exciting opportunity is for a Digital Preservation Specialist to join the Programme team, based at the main University Library.
The Digital Preservation Service will support digital collection materials from acquisition or creation through to access and use, ensuring that current and future readers can access culturally and historically significant materials of global importance.
The Library's digital collection materials consist of digitised images, research publications, data, and born-digital archives. The scope of the Programme includes cloud-native services to ensure current and ongoing access to digital materials, as well as implementing tools for deposit, search, discovery, access, and use.
About the Role
The Digital Preservation Specialist will work within the Digital Preservation team, collaborating with colleagues across the Library, liaising with department heads, operational staff, collections staff, and academics.
Key responsibilities include establishing services for digital collection materials, transferring data from handheld storage carriers, and preparing digital materials for ingest into a preservation workflow.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Understanding of data risks and vulnerabilities, along with knowledge of digital formats and metadata.
* Conceptual understanding of digital preservation challenges or relevant discipline.
* Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders and work collaboratively.
