Role Purpose
The role of Adolescent & Family / Sexual Assault Counsellor provides counselling, including specialist sexual violence counselling, for adolescents aged 10 to 17 years and their family members, either individually or together. The counsellor often works with young people with experiences of sexual, domestic, or family violence and / or whose mental ill-health significantly impacts their daily functioning, school engagement, and relationships. The program is funded by The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) under Targeted Early Intervention (TEI). The counsellor is part of a collaborative team offering therapeutic services such as parenting groups and school-based groups for adolescents, and the role may include co-facilitation.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist sexual violence, trauma-specific, and mental health counselling to individual adolescents, parents / carers or families
* Co-facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups for adolescents and parents
* Proactively complete, implement, and assess evidence-based and trauma-informed individual session plans and collaborate across the team to improve and evaluate group session plans
* Collaborate within the team and with other care specialists to provide holistic support for adolescents and their families
* Participate actively in regular clinical supervision
* Demonstrate commitment to own learning and development
* Maintain client files, case notes and data in accordance with funding body and agency standards
About You
* Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling or related disciplines
* Minimum two years’ experience in the provision of face-to-face counselling
* Demonstrated experience and knowledge in delivering specialist sexual violence counselling
* Knowledge of child protection issues and mandatory reporting requirements
* Excellent written and oral communications skills
