We're now looking for a
Psychosocial Support Worker
to join our
Commonwealth funded Psychosocial Supports Alongside Program
, helping individuals experiencing severe mental illness and associated psychosocial disability to build resilience, strengthen connections, and achieve their recovery goals.
About the Role
The
Alongside Program
provides time-limited, non-clinical psychosocial support to people living with complex mental health and substance use and other co-occuring challenges who may not have access to the NDIS or other capacity-building supports.
As a
Psychosocial Support Worker
, you'll work collaboratively with clients, their families, and multidisciplinary teams to provide practical, recovery-oriented support while helping people build confidence, develop skills, and reconnect with their community.

This position is a full-time fixed term contract.
Key Responsibilities
Provide person-centred, recovery-focused support that empowers clients to achieve their goals
Work with clients and carers to co-design holistic, strengths-based individual support plans
Deliver brief or intensive, time-limited psychosocial support (up to 6–20 weeks) through both centre-based and outreach services
Support clients to connect with clinical services, treatment providers, housing, and community supports
Provide brief interventions, advocacy, and harm minimisation education
Facilitate self-help and group programs that foster connection and skill development
Maintain accurate documentation, data collection, and reporting in line with quality and safety standards
Collaborate closely with Directions' multidisciplinary teams and external partners to ensure coordinated care
Contribute to a positive team culture and participate in supervision, training and quality improvement activities
About You
You're passionate about helping others find hope and purpose through recovery. You bring empathy, initiative and professionalism to your work, and thrive in a role where every day brings new opportunities to make a difference.
You will have:
Certificate IV in Mental Health or equivalent
A recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and harm minimisation approach
Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
Good organisational and time management abilities
Confidence using Microsoft Office and client information systems
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a flexible, multidisciplinary team
Qualifications (or working towards) in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or a related field
Experience in mental health, AOD or community services
Lived experience of psychosocial or related challenges
Other Requirements
Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
Working with Vulnerable People Registration
Satisfactory National Police Check
Current Driver's Licence
Australian Citizenship or working rights in Australia
