About the role

As the Operations Manager for Yalga Connect you will be overseeing the provision of high-quality care, support and supervision to young people in care of the Department of Child Safety, Women and Children in line with Yalga Connect policies and procedures, and legislative requirements. Through creating and maintaining a trauma informed, culturally therapeutic homelike 24/7 Residential OOHC Care Service, effective teamwork, casework and consistent practices, the Operations Manager works alongside the CEO in ensuring team members are assisting young people to achieve agreed personal, educational, health, behavioural and social development outcomes.

The Operations Manager is an integral member of the Yalga Connect Senior Leadership Team, they provide leadership and oversee the end-to-end program operations, including service development/delivery and people management, in order to meet organisational goals, improve organisational performance and promote a professional, high-functioning and collaborative culture.

About you

The ideal person for this role would be flexible, adaptable, and open to learning. You will have the previously demonstrated ability and skills work with young people who display highly complex and challenging behaviours along with understanding the complexities and support needs of how to support professionals within this setting. You will have experience within the Child Protection sector in a management position.

A minimum of 5+ years of management experience within the Child Protection sector is required for this role.

Highly experienced in managing and overseeing the OOHC program with high emphasis on training and mentoring of House Managers and youth workers.

Mandatory requirements
* Must hold or be actively working towards a minimum Diploma level qualification within the human services sector.
* Must hold a minimum Diploma level qualification at the time of application.
* Essential to have worked with and alongside Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people.
* A minimum of 5+ years of experience working with and alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is required.
* Excellent knowledge of social and cultural issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
* Implement and monitor quality, compliance, and Child Safety Licensing frameworks ensuring adherence to industry regulations, including HSQF, Standards of Care, Child Protection Act, and relevant Departmental policies.
* Map organisational requirements to the HSQF framework to ensure full alignment across governance, service delivery, safety and continuous improvement domains.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the community and social services sector.
* Proven experience and a record of achievement in managing the delivery of Human Services specifically to those who have complex and challenging behaviours
* Demonstrated effective people leadership including the management of workplace culture, performance matters, complaints and concerns
* Demonstrated ability to lead and support diverse teams with cultural sensitivity.
* Extensive leadership and management experience including staff supervision, staff performance management, budget development and financial management skills
* The ability to engage stakeholders in developing and maintaining strong working relationships and gaining their participation around key decisions and initiatives
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to negotiate complex matters and resolve conflict
* Knowledge of service models and the ability to design and implement service improvement strategies
* Knowledge and understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity, Ethical Practice, Cultural Diversity Statement and Occupational Health and Safety as they relate to this role
* Must take a practical approach to employee growth and development, addressing any concerns and day-to-day issues with encouragement to build a strong team environment, and be able to mentor House Managers
* Be willing to go to site both locally and regionally, to spend time with Youth Workers and House Managers on a one-to-one basis as required
* A very high level of computer literacy and proficiency with SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite and comparable systems
* Current Working with Children Blue Card – Paid (P)
* Current Driver's License – Minimum of P2 level
* Have own vehicle that you are willing to utilise for work purposes (per km allowance provided for logged work travel).
Desired skills and abilities
* Minimum of three years of residential care management experience
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in community services, social work, management, or related fields.
* Lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
* Experience in organisational growth, tender writing, or business development.
