Job Brief

Be part of a panel of agriculture, food/nutrition and water consultants providing advice on the Australian Government’s Climate Resilient Communities program in the Indo-Pacific, covering the Pacific, Southeast Asia and South Asia regions.

**About the Program**:
Initiated in July 2024, Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) aims to ensure people in the Indo-Pacific are more resilient to climate change and disasters.

Led by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), CRC supports implementation of Australia’s climate change commitments and _International Development Policy_, in line with partner government priorities. CRC incentivises funding towards inclusive climate and disaster resilience programming, with a focus on the water, food, and energy sectors. It does this by increasing climate investments, driving climate integration, and better addressing climate and disaster risk across Australia’s development portfolio.

DT Global has been engaged by DFAT to support implementation of CRC.

**About the Role**:
CRC is recruiting agriculture, food/nutrition and water security consultants to join its Panel. Panel members provide high quality technical advice on program/investment activities and plans on climate programs at the regional or country level, with DFAT staff, partner governments and CRC implementing partners.

A range of opportunities arise for consultants on the Panel. Consultants with experience working in Indo-Pacific, with all levels of experience are encouraged to apply, including early career.

**About You**:
CRC is looking to engage consultants with skills, expertise and experience in the following areas:
**Gender responsive and /or transformative Agriculture**:

- Sustainable agriculture
- Climate-smart agriculture (CSA)
- Agroforestry
- Soil health and fertility
- Crop genetics and biotechnology
- Pest and disease management
- Farm economics and policy
- Locally led agriculture systems and approaches
- Smart water and agriculture tech
- Alternative proteins and food production
- Socioeconomic and political dimensions
- Political economy of food and water security

**Gender responsive and /or transformative Food Security**:

- Food systems and nutrition
- Food production and distribution
- Food sovereignty
- Food waste and loss prevention
- Global food security policy
- Emergency food systems

**Gender responsive and /or transformative Water Security and WASH**:

- Water resource management
- Water scarcity and stress
- Water quality
- Water and climate change
- Irrigation systems
- Desalination and water recycling
- Hydrology and hydrodynamics
- Water governance and policy
- Inclusive approaches to community focused Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
- WASH in DRR and disaster preparedness
- Water/WASH and health focused approaches to climate change

**Cross-cutting areas**:

- Climate-GEDSI Nexus
- Resilience and risk management
- Adaptive pathways
- Circular economy in agriculture and water
- Climate change adaptation and mitigation
- International development and humanitarian aid
- GEDSI and agriculture/water

**Selection Criteria**:

- Experience working on international development programs
- Experience living and/or working in countries where DFAT implements development programs
- Familiarity with DFAT requirements
- Understanding and commitment to gender equality, disability equity and rights, social inclusion
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement and management skills (early career people will be encouraged and supported to develop these skills)
- Ability to work in teams - cross-cultural, cross-disciplinary, in person and virtually, and with diverse levels of experience
- Proven ability to develop capacity of others and share knowledge and learning
- Commitment to career development, including continuous learning and upskilling, as needed.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant or related fields of expertise
- Technical capacity and expertise of relevant professional experience in the Indo-Pacific
- Ability and self-initiative to carry out assigned tasks in a team under mínimal supervision as well as an individual on a specific assignment.
