Position OverviewThe Assistant Breeder Farm Manager plays a critical role in supporting the Farm Manager in the daily operations of the breeder farm. The role is hands-on and requires a proactive individual with a strong background in poultry or livestock farming. The successful candidate will assist in managing flock performance, team supervision, site maintenance, and compliance with animal welfare and WH&S regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in managing the daily operations of the breeder farm to ensure optimal flock health, productivity, and welfare.
Supervise and support farm staff, including planning, prioritising, and delegating workload.
Operate farm machinery, plant, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Monitor feed and water systems, and oversee accurate and timely bird collection.
Carry out daily shed maintenance and grounds servicing.
Conduct weekly bird weigh-ins and maintain accurate records.
Liaise with and supervise contract crews for vaccination and grading.
Monitor and report on animal welfare, flock performance, and production quality.
Respond to on-site alarms, including after-hours callouts.
Ensure compliance with WH&S policies and procedures.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to increase farm efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar poultry or livestock farm role, preferably in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Demonstrated knowledge of poultry production, animal welfare standards, and farm biosecurity.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a small team.
Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Sound understanding of WH&S and quality control standards.
Availability to work weekends, after-hours, and respond to emergencies as required.
