Insurance Broker (Business Development Focus)
We are seeking an experienced insurance broker with strong business development skills to join our Local Community Insurance Services (LCIS) team, a division of JLT Risk Solutions at Marsh.
Based in Adelaide and working in a hybrid model (minimum three days per week in the office), you will play a key role in growing and servicing our portfolio of community and not-for-profit clients across Australia.
Local Community Insurance Services (LCIS), a division of JLT Public Sector, is Australia's trusted authority in developing and delivering risk solutions for governments and their communities – and this role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to that purpose.
At LCIS, our mission is to empower communities and support people in confidently pursuing their passions. As a specialist insurance provider, we deliver tailored cover designed specifically for community groups and not-for-profit organisations. While we operate as insurance advisers rather than traditional brokers, we work under a binding agreement with our insurers, enabling us to provide quotes and bind cover directly for clients in line with our underwriting authority.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Insurance Broker with proven business development experience to drive growth while managing and nurturing a portfolio of clients. You will combine traditional broking skills with a proactive sales mindset – building relationships, identifying opportunities, and converting prospects into long-term clients. You will use your broking and business development experience to identify opportunities, deepen relationships and expand our reach, while providing expert advice and fit-for-purpose insurance solutions.
Our Adelaide-based team partners with not-for-profit organisations across Australia, providing tailored insurance solutions and focusing on managing a strong new business pipeline.
This role is ideal for an insurance broker who enjoys both looking after clients and actively growing a book of business.
Key responsibilities
* Manage and grow a portfolio of clients and prospects, building strong, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders and senior decision-makers.
* Proactively develop new business by managing a prospect pipeline, conducting outreach (including cold-calling where appropriate), and moving opportunities efficiently through the sales funnel.
* Lead the development and delivery of tailored proposals and presentations, clearly articulating our understanding of client risks and how our solutions address these.
* Identify and convert cross-sell and up-sell opportunities, providing insurance solutions that meet clients' needs and enhance retention.
* Manage the full renewal process, ensuring policies are reviewed, marketed where required, renewed on time, and remain appropriate to clients' activities and risk profile.
* Develop and maintain a strong understanding of clients' operations, risk exposures and insurance requirements.
* Provide clear advice and guidance on coverage options, policy terms, conditions and endorsements.
* Work closely with internal teams across policy administration, billing, finance and claims to ensure a seamless client experience.
* Ensure all client and prospect interactions are accurately documented in our systems, in line with company policies and compliance requirements.
* Work in a call-centre style environment, handling back-to-back calls where needed, responding to enquiries, arranging quotes, endorsements and new business.
* Refer clients to our website and support them in using our online quoting platform.
* Collaborate with the LCIS team and insurer partners to grow the portfolio, ensure appropriate coverage, and support broader business development initiatives.
What you need to have
* 1–2+ years' experience in an insurance broking, account management or similar client-facing role, ideally with a business development or sales focus.
* Strong knowledge of general insurance products and services.
* Demonstrated experience identifying client needs and presenting tailored insurance solutions.
* Excellent communication, relationship-building and networking skills, including confidence dealing with senior stakeholders.
* Strong written skills, including the ability to prepare professional proposals, reports and presentations.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using client/CRM or broking systems.
* Willingness to undertake company-directed compliance training.
* RG146 Tier 1 Insurance Broking (or Tier 1 FSRA) is preferred.
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, call-centre style environment and handling high call volumes.
What sets you apart
* A genuine business development mindset – you actively look for, recognise and pursue revenue and growth opportunities, both within your existing portfolio and the wider market.
* Highly self-motivated, with the ability to influence and lead colleagues in the pursuit of opportunities.
* Strong analytical skills, able to interpret information, evaluate risk and translate this into clear, practical advice.
* Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prospects and deadlines simultaneously.
* Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in documentation and reducing errors.
* A strong team contributor who supports collective goals and shows respect for different perspectives, values, cultures and work styles.
* Experience in cold-calling and converting leads into active clients.
Why join our team
* We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
* We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
* Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
