Mount Gambier & District Health Service is currently seeking skilled nurses to join our expanding Medical Ward nursing team. As part of a Labor government election commitment, we will soon be opening two dedicated Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Inpatient Beds within the Medical Ward. This exciting development offers experienced medical nurses a chance to broaden their skills, as well as an opportunity for nurses working in the AOD sector to transition into a new practice setting. The Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Inpatient Bed model of care is the first of its kind for regional South Australia, with few comparable models nationally. What’s exciting? Two new beds opening in a purpose-built space featuring private ensuites, a shared lounge, courtyard, and multipurpose room. Provision of local, medically supervised withdrawal care for people dependent on alcohol and other drugs. Admissions will be planned, voluntary, and focused on keeping care closer to home while strengthening partnerships with local AOD services. A fantastic opportunity to work closely with a smaller group of patients and develop advanced clinical skills. Gain experience in complex care coordination, discharge planning, and recovery-focused nursing. Increased opportunities for collaboration between junior and senior nurses, fostering mentorship, hands-on learning, and professional growth within a supportive team environment. About the role: As a Registered Nurse you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality nursing care to patients across both the medical ward and the new Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Inpatient Beds. Rostering will be managed centrally, providing you with the opportunity to work across both areas and broaden your clinical experience. You will be responsible for assessing patient needs, planning, and implementing individualised care, and coordinating services to support optimal health outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Deliver safe and effective nursing care to patients within medical and withdrawal unit settings. Develop clinical skills through continuous professional learning and hands-on experience. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated physical and psychosocial support. Maintain accountability for your practice standards and contribute to quality care by supporting team members and delegating appropriately. What We Are Looking For: Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, holding a current practising certificate. Demonstrated clinical competence in the relevant area of nursing practice, aligned with professional standards. Ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental care for patients undergoing medical and substance withdrawal treatment. A strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement in care delivery. See role description for qualifications. Why Join Us?
