St John of God Bunbury Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join the Engineering Services team and help keep a busy hospital running smoothly.
You will work hands-on to maintain and repair essential building and engineering assets that directly support patient care, including HVAC systems, mechanical plant, hot water and steam services, medical gas reticulation and hospital beds. You will be part of a collaborative, safety-focused team where your expertise ensures critical services remain reliable with minimal downtime.

Responsibilities
* Preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance (planned preventative inspection, repair, maintenance and fault finding) of HVAC, mechanical and associated equipment and services to maintain hospital quality standards.
* Undertake reactive repairs to HVAC and mechanical equipment to restore systems to service with minimum interruption.
* Work closely with and report to the maintenance coordinator in day-to-day engineering activities.
* 1st line maintenance and repair of fan coils, AHUs, chillers, air vents and ducts, HVAC systems and related control systems. Changing filters, pumps, belts, motors, etc. Boiler work, replacing steam traps and valves.
* Utilise Building Management Systems (BMS) to ensure HVAC and mechanical systems operate correctly and efficiently.
* Implement minor projects and oversee major HVAC and mechanical installation work, including pipe-work and central plant modifications to improve or preserve equipment performance.
* Coordinate subcontractor activities in mechanical building services.
* Assist and prepare for annual audit inspections of mechanical systems and plant.
* Maintain preventive maintenance (PPM) records.
* Ensure uninterrupted operation and meet departing KPIs for the ownership area.
* Carry out daily/weekly plant room checks including BMS monitoring as per maintenance strategy.
* Recommend improvements to maintenance practices for reduced downtime and cost optimization.
* Provide on-call support, including phone support for the hospital site.
* Participate in regular performance reviews and annual reviews; provide inputs for stock levels to support efficient operation of HVAC and mechanical plant and services.
* Support general maintenance and assist other trades as required; attend team meetings.
* Complete job history and details in the computerised maintenance management system; perform housekeeping of work area and post-job clean up.
* Report job progress to the maintenance coordinator and highlight holdups promptly.
* Attend relevant training sessions offered by SJGHC and continually develop required skills and knowledge.
Qualifications and Experience
* Recognised trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter and/or HVAC Technician, with a minimum of four (4) years' experience in a similar role.
* Proven experience in commercial building maintenance, including planned and reactive works across mechanical plant and building services.
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills; ability to work across varied environments (plant rooms, patient areas, operating suites, kitchens, offices, outdoor settings) with a focus on safety and compliance.
* Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly to respond to service requests impacting hospital operations.
* Physical capability for duties including walking long distances, climbing stairs with tools, and assisting with lifting equipment; flexibility to work overtime, after hours and participate in an on-call roster.
Benefits and Conditions
* Salary: $74,237 to $91,620 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
* Permanent full-time position working 76 hours per fortnight; salary packaging up to $18,550 on various benefits (e.g., mortgage, rent, meal entertainment, holiday accommodation) and options to exceed the FBT cap on items such as novated leasing and related expenses.
