AERIUM Analytics is looking for a hands-on Drone & Field Maintenance Technician to support ongoing and upcoming field trials in Australia. This is a part-time contractor role focused on maintaining and troubleshooting our fixed and flapping bird drones - RoBird.
What this role is:
* Maintenance and troubleshooting support for fixed-wing and flapping-wing drones used in field trials
* Hands-on work ensuring aircraft are flight-ready, safe, and operational
* Field-based support at trial sites, with travel required
What this role is NOT:
* Not a robotics or aerospace engineering role
* Not an R&D or design-from-scratch position
* Not focused on firmware or software development
Key responsibilities (current scope):
* Inspect, maintain, and assemble fixed-wing and flapping-wing drones and components
* Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
* Support on-site maintenance during trial operations
* Document issues and maintenance actions clearly, working closely with our head office in Canada as needed
* Training on our specific platforms and procedures will be provided.
Skills & experience we're looking for:
* Experience with fixed-wing RC aircraft (strongly preferred)
* Working knowledge of drones and UAV systems
* Comfortable troubleshooting and performing some repairs
* Practical, detail-oriented, and reliable in field environments
* Pilot experience is preferred, as testing your own maintenance work is valuable
* If acting as a pilot, appropriate CASA certification would be required
* No formal engineering qualification is required.
Time commitment & engagement model:
* 6-month contract role (sole trader / ABN)
* Approximately 20 hours per week to start
* Hours may vary week-to-week depending on trial schedules
Location & travel:
* On-site support required at trial locations
* Shepparton, VIC (now through end of February)
* QLD / Caboolture region (from May onwards)
* Must be willing to travel as required
* Being based in Melbourne or Brisbane is helpful but not required
How you'll work:
* Work closely with our Canadian head office
* Collaborate with pilots and operations staff during active trials
* Focused on maintenance and operational support, not independent R&D
Future potential:
* Opportunity for increased hours over time
* Scope may expand to include logistics and inventory support as operations scale
