About the Role
The Recreation Services Project Manager plays a central role in planning and delivering the operational projects and capital works that keep the Shire's aquatics and recreation facilities safe, modern, and aligned with community expectations. Drawing on strong operational knowledge of aquatics and recreation environments, the role leads research, feasibility studies, and stakeholder engagement to shape high-quality project concepts, business cases, and delivery plans.
This is a temporary full-time role covering an extended period of leave. Reporting to the Team Leader – Recreation Services, the position ensures all projects enhance functionality, safety, and customer experience across facilities, including Yawa Aquatic Centre, Pelican Park Recreation Centre, Somerville Recreation Centre, Civic Reserve Recreation Centre, Crib Point Outdoor Pool, and Mt Martha Public Golf Course.
Core responsibilities include:
* Lead the planning and delivery of operational projects and capital works, ensuring outcomes are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
* Conduct research, feasibility assessments, and stakeholder engagement to inform concept development and project design.
* Provide expert operational advice to guide decision-making and ensure projects consider the technical, safety, and user-experience requirements of aquatic and recreation environments.
* Coordinate consultants, contractors, internal teams, and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, policies, and regulatory requirements, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
* Prepare high-quality plans, reports, briefings, and project documentation to support Council and organisational processes.
* Support team capability and collaboration through proactive communication, problem-solving, and subject-matter insights.
