$140,000 Base Salary

Reporting to the Senior Geologist - Mine, the Geologist - Mine is responsible for collecting primary geological information and performing underground geological activities required to facilitate the safe, efficient and cost-effective extraction and growth of the mineral reserve.

Duties & Responsibilities;
- Provide direction for each face of the underground development headings based on a thorough investigation of, and understanding of, the information available including the geology exposed in the excavation as well as any other relevant information (drill hits, mapping of levels above and below and resource models) so as to achieve the most efficient access to and exposure of the ore bodies for extraction.
- Collect samples and mapping information from the development faces to allow evaluation of the ore bodies exposed within the underground excavations.
- Perform geological mapping of all operating ore development and any other development as instructed by the Senior Geologist - Mine.
- Update and interpret the level plans as part of the development mapping cycle including interpreting the structures in light of the recent information collected in the mapping.
- Perform geological checks of all headings where there is some uncertainty of whether ore is present in the broken rock and clearly communicate the results to Mine Control and the production personnel so that the broken rock can be treated appropriately as ore or waste.
- Adhere to all procedures in the collection of data to ensure the highest quality of data is generated in the safest manner both for sampling and mapping.
- Capture all relevant data from the shift into the appropriate data storage systems (electronic and written) before leaving the mine at the end of each shift. This includes downloading and filing face photographs.
- Clearly communicate all relevant information at handovers, both on a daily basis and for the weekly shift handover, both verbally and in writing/electronic format.
- Plan time so that maximum use is made of shift crossovers, when additional personnel are on site, to perform development mapping.

Specific Requirements -Health and Safety
- Contribute to development and enforcement of safe work practices.
- Display a clear commitment to safety and health, and seek to eliminate or control the risks of injury and/or damage to equipment.
- Operate in accordance with and comply the Company’s Safety and Health Policy, and with all site policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Proactive involvement with continuous OHS improvement processes.
- Active participation in all communication and awareness systems.
- Assist in the development and regular updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that comply with the Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental and Community Issues policies in force.
- At a minimum complete the necessary inspections, audits, task observations and use the safety tools as required to comply with the site safety requirements.
- Participate in formal change management processes for all changes made in your areas of responsibility.
- Assist in the investigations of incidents or accidents occurring within your area of responsibility.
- Participate in safety initiatives, inspections and other safety requirements of the Geology Department.
- Attend all major toolbox/safety meetings as required by the Geology Department.

Qualifications Required
- Bachelor of Science, majoring in Geology, preferably with a post graduate qualification, e.g. Honors.
- Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.

Desired Experience & Competencies
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience in the mining industry.
- Demonstrated ability to learn, set achievable goals and safely achieve tasks.
- Ability to work within a team.
- Intermediate computer literacy with Microsoft Office and Vulcan software
- Good communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all geological and environmental tasks.
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- St Johns Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).
- Awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
