Flanco is a Tasmea Company - a growing civil contracting company servicing the mining & resources sector with various ongoing projects running nationwide with Perth and Kalgoorlie branches. The Management Accountant role is a new key position in our growing business and team.
About the Role
The Management Accountant will be responsible for the integrity, accuracy and analysis of Flanco's financial reporting, supporting the Chief Financial Officer through strong month end processes, balance sheet control and management reporting.
The Management Accountant will own month end journals, reconciliations, balance sheet preparation, profit and loss review, work in progress preparation, and budgeting and forecasting support. The Management Accountant provides insight into financial performance, supports process and control improvements, and assists with Tasmea Group and ad hoc reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Balance Sheet & Month End
* Primary responsibility for balance sheet integrity through the preparation and posting of all month end journals and adjustments.
* Preparation, completion and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations to support accurate and well‐controlled financial records.
* Management of the month end close process, including coordination of inputs, resolution of issues and preparation of supporting schedules.
* Review and analysis of monthly profit and loss results, including identification and investigation of variances.
* Preparation of work in progress reporting to support accurate revenue recognition and project reporting.
* Support timely and accurate delivery of month end reporting in line with internal and group finance timelines.
Management Reporting & Analysis
* Preparation of monthly management reports, including profit and loss reporting and supporting analysis.
* Analysis of financial performance, including identification and explanation of key variances and trends.
* Preparation of board and executive reporting packs, including financial analysis and supporting schedules.
* Provision of financial insights to support decision making by the Chief Financial Officer and operational leaders.
* Ongoing review of project, cost and margin performance to support improved financial visibility and control.
* Support the development and refinement of management reporting to improve clarity, relevance and usefulness.
Work In Progress & Project Reporting
* Preparation and maintenance of work in progress calculations to support accurate revenue recognition.
* Collection, review and analysis of project cost and revenue information to inform WIP assessment.
* Coordination with project teams and the Finance Manager to obtain timely and accurate project data.
* Investigation and explanation of WIP movements and variances.
* Provision of WIP outputs and summaries for inclusion in management and board reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting
* Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts through detailed financial analysis and input preparation.
* Preparation of supporting models, schedules and assumptions to inform budgeting and forecasting activities.
* Analysis of budget versus actual results, including identification and explanation of variances.
* Support rolling forecast updates and reforecasting activities in line with business and group requirements.
* Provision of financial insights to support planning, resource allocation and performance management discussions.
General Support, Systems & Processes
* Support the development and maintenance of strong financial controls and processes across the finance function.
* Assist with process improvement initiatives to strengthen data quality, reporting accuracy and control environment.
* Support finance system development, optimisation and readiness for future ERP or system enhancements.
* Preparation of supporting documentation, reconciliations and schedules to enable audit and group reporting requirements.
* Support Tasmea and ad hoc reporting requirements, including ESG, compliance and other group‐level data requests.
* Provide analytical and technical support to the Chief Financial Officer on finance systems, process and reporting matters.
* Support other finance team functions during periods of leave, peak workload or operational demand to ensure continuity of finance operations.
Skills and Experience:
* Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Business
* CA or CPA highly regarded
* Previous management accounting experience in a similar role in a medium size organisation
* Confident communicator with experience in effective partnering with senior operational stakeholders
